Record‑Breaking $48,400 Raised at the 2026 Hirepool Charity Classic Golf Tournament

The 2026 Hirepool Charity Classic Golf Tournament has delivered its strongest result in the event’s history, raising an impressive $48,400 to support Community Link’s Cold Kids fundraising campaign across the Upper Clutha. The three‑day tournament brought together players, sponsors, supporters, and local businesses for what has become one of the region’s most anticipated charity events.

This year’s tournament was marked by outstanding weather with matching energy from players on and off the course. Players turned out in force, bringing a fantastic mix of competition, laughter and camaraderie. Across the tournament, teams created an event that was overwhelmingly generous to kick off Community Links Cold Kids campaign and thoroughly enjoyable for participants and supporters alike.

The Cold Kids campaign helps local families keep their children warm through winter by providing essential heating support such as firewood and assistance with rising heating costs for those in the community who are struggling to pay the bills.

A major highlight of the weekend was the exceptional support shown through the auction and raffle. Local businesses contributed an array of prizes from unique experiences to high‑value items which helped drive the overall fundraising total to its record‑breaking figure. Sponsors and supporters also played a significant role, backing the tournament with enthusiasm and ensuring the event remained vibrant and engaging for all involved.

Community Link General Manager Kate Murray says the success of the tournament reflects the strength of community spirit across the Upper Clutha.
“The generosity we saw over these three days was nothing short of inspiring. Every player, sponsor and supporter contributed to something truly special. This record result means we can continue meeting the increasing needs of our community, particularly around heating costs and food support and especially as the cost of living in our community escalates. We are so grateful for the way people showed up for Community Link.”

Community Link Chair Ian Maxwell says the event shows what can be achieved when communities unite with purpose.
“This tournament goes far beyond golf, it’s about people coming together to make a real difference. The level of support this year was extraordinary, and the funds raised will have a direct and meaningful impact.  We’re incredibly impressed and honoured at the way our community rallied behind this event.”

The funds raised will directly support Community Link’s frontline services, including its Winter energy support, Foodbank, social support programmes, and wellbeing initiatives. With demand for assistance growing, the record result comes at a critical time.

Community Link extends its appreciation to Hirepool, The Wānaka Golf Club, Cucumber Sandwich Club, sponsors, donors, players, volunteers, and the wider community for helping make the 2026 tournament such a memorable and impactful success.
