When Life Tips the Scales: Mental Health Support at Community Link

At Community Link, we know life can sometimes throw people off balance. Around 80% of the clients who come through our Occupational Therapy (OT) service are facing something that has tipped the scales – a stressful situation, a sudden change, or the weight of too many responsibilities all at once.

Often, it’s not a single event, but the build-up of pressures over time. People are busy caring for their families and whānau, juggling work, parenting, or supporting elderly relatives. Then one day, the stress takes its toll, and their own wellbeing begins to suffer.

The challenges vary – from losing a safe place to live, to grief, relationship change, or financial stress. Whatever the cause, the result can be the same: feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and as if their mana – their dignity and strength – is under pressure.

For many people Ana sees, reaching out is a first. They’ve never taken that step before, and it can feel daunting. Yet again and again, people tell us the sense of relief in simply being listened to is immense. Having a safe space to talk things through, to rebuild confidence, and to explore practical ways forward can be life-changing.

Our Occupational Therapist, Ana, offers support that is compassionate, confidential, and tailored to each person’s needs. It’s not about having all the answers, but about helping you cope, reset, and regain balance.

Reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness – it’s a smart and courageous step. When you look after yourself, you’re better able to look after the people you love.

📞 You can contact Ana directly on 03 443 7799.
